The Vedas
proclaim "Let welfare be to biped and the quadruped."
Following the preaching of the Vedas, Shree Swaminarayan
Gurukul maintains Gaushalas in almost all its branches. During
the heavy draught in Saurashtra, the Gurukul had organised a Cattle-camp at Chharodi. Here more than 1000 cows
and bulls were sheltered with proper food, water and medical
care. It was started in the month of November 2000. It was
continued for a period of eight months.
Cattle Camp - 2000-2001
Due to
intense famine during 2000-2001, poor farmers could not remain
in s state to feed their cattle. So with the noble aim of
services to the cattle, a centre to nurture them was opened at
Chharodi Gurukul.
The Cattle
camp was initiated on 1st November, 2000.
·
The Cattle
camp was opened in the gracious presence of Honourable Governor,
the chief whip of Legislative assembly and other leading
personalities.
·
The camp
was established in the 18 acres of land.
·
It
accommodated 1055 oxen and 255 cows totaling to 1310 cattle.
·
It provided accommodation
to 798 beast-nurturing volunteers belonging to 90 villages.
·
The three
chief managers, 6 organisers,130 volunteers provided
service to the Cattle. Thus one person supervised 10 cattle.
·
Feeding on an
average 18
kg. of green grass, 5 kg. Of hay, 2 kg. gram per cattle
daily. Thus the grass
was served three times a day morning, afternoon and evening.
Every time the feed was different. For drinking water eight large
store shades ( Avedo) were constructed.
·
Each animal
was tied separately. This helped to look
after specifically the weak animals.
·
There was an
excellent arrangement for volunteers' break fast, morning and evening
meals and accommodation too.
·
The cattle
received services for seven months and 25 days by way of this
cattle camp.
The
closing ceremony was arranged on June 25, 2001. Through out
the camp the services of saints, students and Haribhakas were
excellent, timely and properly attended too.
