Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul, a non-profit educational and
socio-spiritual organisation was founded by
Shastriji Maharaj Shree Dharmajivandasji, at
Rajkot
in the year 1948. The ultimate goal of this
Gurukul is to provide a value-based education to
one and all and to work for the betterment of the
whole world, as advocated by Lord Swaminarayan. As
on date, it has accomplished this goal by
tirelessly working to help the needy in such major
areas as Academic programmes; Environmental
protection; Health and Welfare; Livestock &
agricultural improvement; Spiritual awareness;
Anti-addiction movement, Rehabilitation and Water
crisis management.
In accordance with the principle of spreading
Sadvidya – ‘Good and True education’ propagated by

A Unique Academic Institution :
Swaminarayan Gurukul's greatest thrust has been in the field
of education. It runs schools& colleges across the
nation, medium of instruction being English as
well
regional language. Over thousands of high school
and college graduates from these institutes have now settled across the globe as successful and
leading business executives & professionals and
are the living proof of Gurukul’s academic
programme's resounding success. Most of these
schools offer education, boarding, lodging, books
and clothing to the needy at a very meagre cost.
It is a miracle in itself considering that all
this is achieved without soliciting specific
donations. All the benevolent activities of the
Gurukul run only with the voluntary donations of
the people inspired by the Almighty !
Spiritual activities :
To create spiritual and basic awareness among masses, Saints
of Gurukul, who regularly travel across the nation
and visit as many places as possible to interact with the people and encourage them to
follow certain basic virtues. Twice a year, a
spiritual gathering called as Brahma Satra and Jnana Satra
is organised where thousands of people
attend the spiritual-discourses & bhajans and
seek solace. Japa yajna, Mantra lekhan, Ved
parayana, constructions & renovation of temples, special yatra trains,
shibir,
camps etc. are some of the regular activities of
Gurukul to promote spiritual awareness among
the people. The saints of the Gurukul also travel
abroad to propagate the spiritual message and
encourage the youngsters to lead a righteous life.
Regular cultural and festival celebrations are
also organised to create a sense of equality and unity among
the people. Centers like Bal-Yuvak Satsang Mandal,
Balika Satsang Mandal and Bhakti Mahila Mandal are functioning
successfully to serve the society in all
possible manners.
Social and medical
activities :
Besides a well equipped Polyclinic Hospital Gurukul regularly organises
Medical Camps for
the needy. The
treatment for all sorts of diseases is given free
of charge. Regular Blood Donation Camps, De-addiction
camps, Polio camps, Neurology camps
and Veterinary Camp too are organised. , Ayurvedic treatments are also
promoted by the Gurukul. The Gurukul is also
involved in various programmes to remove
illiteracy in the rural areas. During the Howe of
natural calamities such as earthquake, flood,
cyclone etc. Gurukul provides food packets, volunteers and
building materials to the
affected.
Water re-charge movement :

To effectively tackle the water crisis of
Gujarat, with the aim of rainwater harvesting the
Gurukul under the " Dharmajivan Jalsanchay Abhiyan
" has constructed more than 500 check dams
covering 108 villages. Re-charging the wells and
other water sources is
also encouraged and promoted by Gurukul in lots of
villages.
Ecological activities :
To work for the environmental protection, the organization
has planted over 100,000 saplings and the goal
over next 10 years is to plant 1 million trees in
western
India alone. Environment protection occupies a
prime position in Gurukul's objectives.
Animal welfare :
The organization has got Goshalas and maintains hundreds of
cows. It also runs cattle raising and bull
production facilities. It also donates the healthy
cattle to the farming community to improve the
quality of country's livestock. The institute's
cows and bulls have been known for winning top
prizes at National Level.
Cattle camps during the time of drought and regular
veterinary camps are also conducted by Gurukul.
Conclusion :
With this vast successful journey today the Gurukul led by Pujya Mahant Shree Devkrishnadasji Swami and Pujya
Shastri Shree Madhavapriyadasji Swami is marching
ahead towards further excellence, keeping in mind
its only objective, i.e. "Betterment of all living
beings".
