Vartaman Vidhi

In every Vedic Sampraday it is necessary for the followers to be submissive and to follow the code of conduct. Surrender to God is very important for God-seekers. The soul surrenders to God just to liberate himself from the cycle of rebirth, sin, shackles of destiny and for making himself free from the pain of Yampuri (hell). As a commitment of surrender he takes an oath for following divine code of conduct and thus sticks to it for the whole life. He performs the worship of God and at last attains emancipation (Moksh).
Such act of submission recommended by Bhagawan Shree Swaminarayan is carried out in this holy Sampraday. By the association of saints thousands of seekers come under the shelter of Lord Shree Swaminarayan. Saints usher them into the realm of God and tie them bead-string (Rosary). Five conditions are imposed on them to live a simple life. 1) No liquor (no addiction) 2) No non-veg. 3) No stealing 4) No wrongdoing (No adultery) 5) Purity in diet.
These five rules are termed as ‘Panch Vartaman’ (Five pledges) in Shree Swaminarayan Sampraday. Therefore such a way of submission in Sampraday is called ‘to take Vartaman’.
Every year a new academic year begins, the new students enter the Gurukul in a way of surrendering God.
As a tradition, Sadguru Mahant Swami Shree Devkrishnadasji Swami tied the Rosary this year also to new students and advised them to lead a pious life and follow five Vartamans. He offered to everyone a Pooja-set to perform Pooja every morning.
